Fender Lead Series

If the Stratocaster or Telecaster is not for you then you may be tempted by the re-introduced Lead Series guitars from Fender. Originally released in 1979 and made through to 1982, the Lead Series guitars were hard-tailed solid body double cuts, looking a bit like a scaled down Stratocaster.

New for this year is the Lead II, which features two single coils, and the Lead III, which features a set of hot alnico Player humbucking pickups. Both have dual-toggle switches for pickup selection and a modern “C” neck shape with medium jumbo frets.

Both are available in some great colours – the Lead II in Neon Green, vintage-correct Crimson Red Transparent and Black; the Lead III in Purple Metallic, classic Olympic white and Sienna Sunburst.

Retailing at around £599 they look to be great value.
